Meanwhile, the Alien Pack will add 10 new and unique enemies to the alien’s roster and will launch sometime after the first two.įans of the original Long War mod are no doubt hoping that the final mod will be an updated variant of Long War for XCOM 2, but there’s been no official hints or leaks that such a large project is underway, even if it would be awesome. The Perk Pack and the Laser Pack will launch simultaneously and will add a soldier class construction kit and a new light based weapon tier respectively. Joining Toolbox in Long War Studio’s lineup are four other mods, including the Perk Pack, the Laser Pack, the Alien Pack, and a single as of yet unannounced final mod that is still in development. Toolbox is currently available for free on the Steam Workshop, all you need is a legit copy of XCOM 2 and a chip on your shoulder to prove you’re the best in the turn based RPG business to get started.

Long War Studios has already released the first of these five mods in the form of Toolbox, a mod that, among a number of small gameplay and UI changes, adds random stats to new soldiers and additional random stats when your soldiers level up with the goal of creating distinctly varied units based off of their strengths and weaknesses.

Most of these mods were well received, so it’s no surprise that Firaxis has renewed the partnership with an extended roadmap of content to launch alongside their own official DLC. These popped up as the now famous Leader Mod, the SMG-series Weapon Mod, and the Muton Centurion Mod, each adding a specific set of items and gameplay elements to XCOM 2 at launch to optionally improve and add to the base game. A Modder’s Dream Becomes RealityĪt the time, XCOM: Long War was largely a passion project by several highly talented fans, but in a twist of fate that most modders only dream of, 2K and Firaxis turned around and commissioned the small studio to create a series of official mods for the release of XCOM 2. Long War Studios rose to fame after creating the Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM: Enemy Within, which overhauled the game on multiple fronts and both extended and improved the gameplay experience in a dramatic fashion, which garnered a massive following from die hard fans and developers of the game alike. 2K and Firaxis have officially announced their renewed partnership with Long War Studios in order to produce a wealth of new free content for XCOM 2 in the form of five new pieces of official modded content.
